Abstract
The present thesis entitled quotReliability and Cost Analysis of Some Industrial
newlineSystems with Varied Demand for the Productsquot is an attempt to develop the
newlinereliability models considering different situations depending on the variation in
newlinedemand and production capacity of systems on the basis of information gathered
newlineon failure times, repair times, other rates, costs from General Cable Energy India
newlinePrivate Limited, with the following objectives:
newlineand#61623; To understand the process of industries and to create a model(s) for the
newlineselected industrial system.
newlineand#61623; To obtain the reliability, the expressions for the mean time to system
newlinefailure and for various other measures of the systems effectiveness.
newlineand#61623; To analyze various other measures like cost-benefit analysis, busy period,
newlinemean time to system failure and expected number of visits by repairmen
newlineusing semi-Markov process and regenerative point technique.
newlineand#61623; To know the profit function graphically with respect to various rates, costs,
newlinerevenue, probabilities.
newlineand#61623; To make comparison between the models taken two at a time for the
newlinesystem to be studied under different situations/ considerations and to
newlineidentify which and when one model is better than the other.
newlineData/information on failure times, repair times, various costs and
newlineprobabilities has been gathered visiting General Cable Energy System/Plant. Then
newlinereliability models have been developed on the basis of the situations existing in
newlinethe plant visited. Reliability, Mean Time to System Failure (MTSF) and various
newlineother measures of the system effectiveness have been obtained by making use of
newlinesemi-Markov processes and regenerative point technique. Expression for the
newlineprofit has been obtained for each of the models discussed using the obtained
newlinemeasures of the system effectiveness. Computer programs using BASIC / C
newlinelanguage were developed for evaluating various measures of the system

newlineeffectiveness and hence the profit for particular cases, that is, for some numerical
newlinevalues of various rates, costs, revenue, probabilities taken on the basis o
