Abstract
Father of Sociology, Auguste Comte defines sociology as the study of human
newlinesocial relationships and institutions. One of the important areas of interest in sociology
newlineis the so called environmental behavior. Human behavior has a certain influence on the
newlineenvironment greater or smaller, positive or negative, almost all human behavior could
newlinebe called environmental behavior, as people are in an interaction with their environment
newlinealmost constantly (Krajzanzl, 2010). Over consumption, over exploitation,
newlinedeforestation are some of the human activities that cause damage either directly or
newlineindirectly.
newlineThe roots of environmental problems lie in human behavior, so the solution
newlinecould lie in changing the behavior of organizations and groups and so in culture and
newlinelife style change (Mondejar-Jimenez et.al., 2011). There are 1.3 billion adolescents in
newlinethe world, making up 16 percent of the world s population, defined by the United
newlineNations as those between the ages 10 and 19 (UNICEF, 2022). The adolescents are a
newlinevery important part of community. Behavioral concerns that the adolescents have about
newlinethe environment will determine the condition of the environment. The aim of this study was to examine the environmental behavior of secondary
newlineschool students of Gujarat. A Conceptual framework was developed based on
newlineLiterature Review of 16 Indian and 38 Abroad researches. Influences of life experience,
newlinefamily, school, society, peer was found on students behavior. Thus, demographic
newlinevariables-gender, level of parental education, school area, academic achievements, type
newlineof school management were some of the identified variables.
newlineDescriptive survey method was applied.1803 secondary school students were
newlineselected by multistage, stratified sampling technique and cluster sampling technique.
newlineSelf constructed tool Environmental Behavior Scale was the instrument used for data
newlinecollection. Students gave their responses on 5-point Likert Scale by choosing the
newlinelevel of agreement from strongly agree to strongly disagree.
