Abstract
quotOne of the most destructive and devastating tsunami in the Arabian sea is the 1945 Makran
newlinetsunami which occurred on November 27th in the Makran Subduction Zone (MSZ) because of an
newlineearthquake having 8.1 ( ) magnitude. The epicentre of this particular seismic activity is at
newline63.48O E, 25.15O N about 100 km west of Karachi, off the coastal region of Makran along the
newlinenorthern part of Arabian Sea and roughly 87 km southern - south western part of Baluchistan,
newlinePakistan. It is the one and only well documented tsunami for which information regarding the
newlinerun-up heights along the coastal regions and magnitude of earthquake is available in literature. In
newlinemy thesis an estimation of the impact of tsunamigenic earthquakes are carried out for the Islands
newlineof Lakshadweep and the western coastal cities / areas of India. Moreover this study is focused in
newlineestimating the protection that Lakshadweep Islands are providing to the west coast of India by
newlineusing a mathematical model and appropriate sets of bathymetry and elevation data. Also GIS
newline(Geographical Information System) is used to study the tsunami arrival time analysis.quot
