Management of manuscript collection in Assam in digital era a practical approach using ICT tools

newline Abstract newlinePurpose: The very purpose of this study is to find out the status of manuscript newlinerepositories of Assam and to show the prospect of using information and newlinecommunication technology for their management and to submit a plan how to newlinedesign a database of manuscripts of Assam. newlineDesign/ Methodology/ Approach: A literature search and analysis have been newlinedone in the beginning of the study following the basic objective. It gives a basic newlineconcept of the theme of the study. Personal visit to various manuscript newlinerepositories of Assam and discussion with different persons engaged in the newlinerepositories help in knowing the manuscript culture of Assam. A survey has been newlineconducted in the repositories using a questionnaire, both the print as well as the newlineonline questionnaire has been used that brings out the present status of the newlinerepositories of the state. newlineFindings: The crystal clear picture of the manuscript repositories of Assam is newlinerevealed from this survey based study. Analysis of data collecting through this newlinequestionnaire helps to acquire a concrete result regarding the status of the newlinerepositories and their managerial aspect. An outline to design a database of newlinemanuscript has also been drawn as well as a practical approach of using Google newlineSites for manuscript access has been shown. Some other concrete newlinerecommendations on different related issues have been offered in this study. newlineResearch Limitations/Implication: In this study, only limited numbers of newlinerepositories have been covered and the study aims to solve the basic problem of newlinenon-availability of information of manuscripts of Assam online. A theoretical newlineproposal of designing a database as well as a practical proposal of using Google newlineSites for this purpose has been mentioned in the study. There is an immense newlinescope for further study in designing such database using different database newlinemanagement software as well as using the other Web 2.0 platforms for this newlinepurpose. newline
