Abstract
newline Microstrip Patch Antennas and Dielectric Resonator are major types of antennas which play key part of the growth in modern wireless communications. DRAs are preferred over MPAs in most situations. Due to its superior bandwidth, low loss, and simple architecture, the DRA has garnered a lot of interest as a potential future communication medium in recent years. Several compact Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antennas incorporating Defective Ground Structures such as circular, rectangular, circular ring, rectangular ring and aperture coupling are successfully demonstrated in this dissertation. All of developed RDRAs are demonstrated choosing Alumina 96% (and#120576;and#119903; =9.4, tanand#948; = 0.06) as Dielectric Material. The optimum slot dimensions in each design are obtained by parametric analysis. The effect of incorporating DGS/Slot coupling in terms of the performance parameters of antenna have been studied. The optimal slots in each design gives improved bandwidth (BW) and other performance parameters. The ground planes of two DGS- based RDRAs are engraved with circular and rectangular slots. The Impedance Bandwidth of the RDRA with a circular-slot is 51.8%. Similarly, the IBW of RDRA with rectangular-slot is 18.69%. The peak gains of the DGS-based RDRAs with circular and rectangular slots are 4.13 and 4.05 dBi, respectively. Other performance parameters of antenna are also investigated. The ring-based DGS are made up of rectangular and circular ring slots. It is found that, incorporation of ring slots reduce the overall size of the RDRAs maintaining the similar performance of the RDRAs with circular/rectangular slots. The RDRA with rectangular-ring slot DGS provides IBW of 33.97 % .The IBW of the other RDRA is 27.97 % . The efficiency and peak realized gain of the rectangular- ring slotted RDRA and circular-ring slotted RDRA within the band of operating frequencies are also studied. Further miniaturization along with dual-band characteristics could be successfully achieved by designing a RDRA suggested using subst
