A Study on Aviation English for Cabin Crew Trainees Using the Graphic Interchange Format to Augment Grammar

Abstract

This study investigates how GIFs based module encourages the learners in enhancing their English grammar skills for their occupational purposes by utilizing them as a pedagogical tool for the cabin crew trainees. English is the only official language which has been used in the aviation sector. As a result, the aviation professionals expected to have the ability to converse without any flaw while they communicate with each other. Having proficiency in English language guarantees them a better position and there is a need for their development in their workplace. The trainees who do not have the Level 4 fluency lose their opportunity to be associated with any flight company where the significance of good grammar skills insisted. The training aimed at the better outcome on the grammatical skills focusing on the Adjectives, Adverbs and Modal Auxiliary verbs. They tend to be polite and responsible to make announcement during the in-flight situation. Though, the trainees focus on the interpersonal skills, they must be aware of the situations they would encounter especially during emergency situations. They are trained with task-based methods like role playing during their training phase. But, the enhancement of any skills occur when the conventional trainings incorporate new, innovative, knowledge based techniques with technological tools added in their curriculum newline
