A Study on Bingham Plastic Fluid Flow Between Two Parallel Plates

Abstract

As far as non-Newtonian fluids are concerned, Bingham Plastic fluid model is used widely by the researchers due to its potentiality of describing fluids and their simplicity of getting a compatible results. In this connection, the traditional hydrodynamics with various non-Newtonian fluid models have got tremendous response in various application areas. The fluid flow between two parallel plates is of great interest in hydro dynamical machines. Practically, it is involved in compression and injection modeling in various mechanical applications. Hydrodynamic lubrication, petroleum industry, bio-mechanics are some of the application areas where many heavy weights lifting machine like hydraulic machines are employed. In the present work, Bingham plastic fluid flow model has been employed between the two parallel plates and studied the effect of various parameters like temperature variation in both the paltes including adiabatic effect. The velocity and pressure profile also studied and analyzed in a detailed manner. In all the cases the governing equations are solved in semi analytical approach. It means that for some extend, equations are solved analytically and in later stage Numerical method is used to compute the result in MATLAB. newlineKEYWORDS: Bingham plastic, Parallel plates, Thermal effect, Squeezing effect, Velocity distribution, Pressure distribution, Couette flow. newline
