Abstract
In this thesis, frequency sharing schemes VDFS and HDFS with guard channels in two tier system are considered improving the performance of wireless communication networks using CAC with accommodating more subscribers including the capabilities of reducing CDP and CBP. The overlapping property of the two-tier system provides the advantages that share the traffic load to improve the efficiency of calls and also reserve the guard channels in a cell to handle the handoff calls. The suggested schemes also perform similar trends to both fast and slow subscribers, therefore these schemes can be used together in that area where both kinds fast and slow speed subscribers are available. The advocated schemes have the prioritization to the handoff calls using guard channels. Performance analysis shows the significant reduction in call loss probability and call drop probability that can be obtained for VDFS and HDFS over TB and CR schemes. TB and CR schemes, on the other hand show the opposite trends for slow and fast subscribers, therefore the TB and CR schemes cannot be used together in the place where both slow and fast speed subscribers are present.
