Disease and discrimination a sociological study on the role and perception of people towards HIV or AIDS problem in Balasore District of Odisha

Abstract

The study is broadly divided into six chapters. Introduction forms the first chapter. It deals with the conceptual understanding of the disease HIV/AIDS and different kinds of discrimination and stigma related to it. It consists of the origin of the disease AIDS, its various modes of transmission and impact on the social and economic condition of the people living or infected with this disease AIDS. The relationship between the disease and discrimination is presented, with disease comes discrimination. newlineThe second chapter describes the programmes and initiatives taken by the government in order to prevent AID disease and create awareness about this disease among the people, so that the negative attitude and behavior toward the HIV infected patients and their family will be reduced. It deals with the current status and data of AIDS patients in accordance to different government reports and officials. newlineThe third chapter describes the socio- economic background of the respondents included in the study. The educational qualification, religion, gender, occupation of the respondents has an impact on their views and attitudes toward the HIV disease and the positive patients and their family. newlineThe fourth chapter describes about the relationship between the disease and discrimination. newline
