dc.description.abstract	Diarrhoeal diseases have been estimated to be responsible for nearly five million deaths in children every year (WHO, 1997). WHO recommendations are for an infant to be given only breastmilk for 6 months and for breast feedings to continue for two years of age or beyond. newlineInfantile Diarrhoea continues to be the chief killer of infants under the age of 1 year in tropical countries. Diarrhoea is the visible symptom of Gastroenteritis. Bacterial colonization of the infant gut may have important influences on the development of gastrointestinal, respiratory and allergic disease. newline newline
