Achievement Motivation and Emotional Competence in relation to Mental Ability of BEd Teacher Trainees in Kerala

Abstract

The title of the study is Achievement Motivation and Emotional Competence in relation to newlineMental Ability o B.Ed. Teacher Trainees in Kerala. Education for promoting the factors like newlineAchievement Motivation, Emotional Competence and Mental Ability needs to be recognized as an newlineelement of the teaching-learning process. In the class room and therefore, developing these factors newlinebecome a prime concern of Colleges of Education and curriculum of B.Ed. course. Teacher in the newlineinformative age warrants being equipped with in-depth motivation to achieve high competencies newlineto become emotionally competent and thereby to achieve mental ability to cater to the needs of newlinestudent teachers which well contribute towards mental ability. The study was aimed at finding the newlineEmotional Competence, Achievement Motivation and Mental Ability of B.Ed. teacher trainees in newlinerelation to age, locality, streams of study, types of institution and parental income. Emotional newlineCompetence Scale developed and standardized by the investigator (2016), adapted and modified newlineversion of o Achievement Motivation Scale by Shaha Beena (1986), and adapted and modified newlineversion of General Mental Ability Test developed by Rama Tiwari (1987) was used to collect the newlinedata. Descriptive Analysis, Inferential Analysis, Correlational Analysis, Regression Analysis, and newlineChi-square Analysis were used to Analysis the data. The sample constituted 1500 B.Ed. Teacher newlineTrainees of four universities belonging to 20 Colleges o Education. newlineThe findings were: (1) Significant differences was found between B.Ed. teacher traineesand#8223; newlineachievement motivation and emotional competence concerning types of institution. (ii) Significant newlinedifferences was found between teacher trainees mental ability and age, streams of study, types o newlineinstitution and parental income. (iii) Positive correlation found between emotional competence, newlineachievement motivation and mental ability. (iv) Regression analysis revealed that achievement newlinemotivation and emotional competence are the important predictors of mental ability.
