Abstract

Preservation of cultural heritage (CH) artifacts is an essential task for museum curators, custodians, and heritage researchers. Digital reconstruction of CH artifacts through the classical photogrammetry process is challenging and complex. The quality of a reconstructed model is highly influenced by parameters such as camera location, image distortion, and shape. These parameters can be optimized by integrating an industrial robot manipulator with a high-resolution digital camera and by implementing symmetry analysis. This can be achieved by a three-step independent process; i) Digital reconstruction of heritage artifacts based on area similarity method in photogrammetry, ii) Calibration of eye-in-hand robot manipulator using transfer learning regression networks, and iii) Analysis and detection of symmetry in CH artifacts.
