newlineAbstract newline newlineBy historically analyzing select printed materials such as books, journals, and newlinenewspapers, this thesis attempts to contextualize Urdu print culture in the princely state of newlineHyderabad. Thematically it examines books on science, journal essays on social reform, and newlinenewspaper editorials on infrastructure and development. The thesis argues that print newlinefunctioned in Hyderabad less as a disseminator of modern knowledge and social agent and newlinemore as a condition of discursive configurations. Print culture helped accelerate the mutual newlineconstitution of tradition and modernity and religion and science through intersection and newlinedivergence. The methodology chosen for this study is archival techniques coupled with the newlinehistorical method and textual analysis. newline
