newlineBackground: Learning is a process. The individuals learn through one s own experiences as
newlinewell as from others experience. The individual acquires these experiences by involving
newlinesimple activities. Doing or engaging in activities plays an important role in the cognitive
newlinedevelopment of each individual. Learning becomes active when each individual gets adequate
newlineopportunity to explore experiment, assemble and dismantle things. The five phases of
newlinelearning are Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration and Evaluation. This phase
newlineis designed to create interest and raise questions for enquiry and elicit learner s existing
newlineknowledge about the topic. The activities of this make connections of past and future
newlineexperiences. The world of 21 st century learning pedagogy framework and argue that each
newlinestudent should have the capacity for problem-solving, decision making, creative and critical
newlinethinking, collaboration and communication. The Integrated STEM Approach which reflects
newlinethe Constructivist method which is increasingly clear in the pedagogy of the 21 st century
newlinecomprised of the learners at the center and Interdisciplinary and Project based work. To make
newlineeach individual success in the global workplace will require high performance in the
newlineIntegrated STEM Approach.
newlinePurpose: An attempt is made to study the effect STEM education is to prepare the 21st
newlinecentury students with STEM education and its related activities so that students can
newlineexperience what they learn in the classroom and apply it to their future in the real world. The
newlinehands-on activities in the classroom help to introduce the students to careers and fundamental
newlineskills. Integrated STEM Approach systematizes conventional science and mathematics and
newlinehelps the learners actively construct their own knowledge by connecting new ideas to the
newlineexisting ideas on the basis of materials/activities presented to them.
newlineMethod: The study is a single Pre-test and Post-test design used to study the effect of
newlineIntegrated STEM Approach on the mechanical abilities of the IX standard. Initially students
newlinewill be analyzed through the introduction to STEM Approach to the experimental group and
newlinethen without the introduction of integrated STEM Approach to the controlled group and
newlineiv
newlinefinding out whether the integrated STEM Approach is effective in developing the mechanical
newlineabilities of IX standard students.
newlineResult: There was a significant difference between the scores of the control group and
newlineexperimental group with Integrated STEM Approach, the null hypothesis is rejected,
newlineintegrated STEM Intervention package developed by the Researcher is considered as more
newlineeffective in developing mechanical abilities. It was proved by comparing the mean scores of
newlineexperimental and control group.
newlineConclusion: According to the findings, the Mean scores of Experimental group with
newlineIntegrated STEM Approach achieved highest mean score than control group. Hence,
newlineIntegrated STEM Approach has contributed in learning experience through challenging
newlineactivities, Project-based learning, and creating interest among students and on developing the
newlinemechanical ability.
