Design of a non linear boomerang trajectory based sliding mode controller for ripple reduction and mitigation of circulating current in dc microgrid

Abstract

Renewable Energy Sources (RES) provides a pivotal performance in newlinecurrent energy scenario and counterbalances the energy requirements in and newlineouter space. Among the various RES, solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems play a newlinemajor role because of its affordability and easy installation. The widely used newlinepower converter like DC-DC boost, buck and buck-boost converters, which, newlinehandles the job of power conversion between the available sources and load. newlineEven though the converters provide high efficiency in power conversion, newlinethere are few snags in the existing system like voltage imbalance during newlinedynamic loading, highly sensitive to slight change in duty cycle, presence of newlinehigh magnitude ripples in the output voltage and current as well, large newlineinductor and capacitor are required to have a ripple free output and finally, newlineimproper mitigation of reverse current when coupling with inductive loads. newlineHowever, many researchers have addressed the aforementioned problems to a newlinegreater extent by providing a topological modification, addition of extra newlinefiltering circuits, enhancing the controlling methodologies, and by employing newlineadvanced controllers for better optimization. newlineThis thesis mainly focus on the controlling aspects of the boost newlineconverter in a DC-Microgrid environment, like voltage stability, ripple newlinereduction and mitigation of circulating current in the microgrid, when more newlinethan one converter is connected in parallel. One of the most popular and newlinehighly robust controllers, the Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) is considered in newlinethis research. SMC s are extensively used in the applications that require newlinerobustness and better controllability under transient dynamic conditions. The newlinemost favoured position of SMC is, it controls a variable in sliding plane and newlineslides it along the sliding line and converges to zero or nearest to zero newline
