BIT Error Rate Reduction for Wireless Communication System using Adaptive Channel Equalization

Abstract

Digital communication is a process that involves data relocation and data transfer in a digital format. The mechanism involves the utilization of communication medium popularly known as communication channel that governs the efficiency and quality of the transferred data. Digital communication also inherits the quality to mergevarioustypes of signal where the signal is not only limited to data but also covers wider dimension of signal types namelyvoice, text and audio media. When the signal disseminate through the communication channel, the signal strength gets inevitably degraded. In other words, the signal is said to have inherited some level of noise and gives rise to an important parameter called as SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio). Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN), Rician Fading and Rayleigh Fading are some of the major type of noises associated with a digital communication. Moreover, tremendous amount of data loss have been observed due to these noises and fading effects. For instance, Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) is one of the major outcomes of the fading effect. newlineThe quality of digital communication and performance of the system is determined by calculating Bit Error Rate (BER) along with Mean Squared Error (MSE). BER is measured in terms of the number of bits that have been altered in response to interference, bit synchronization errors or incorporation of needless unavoidable signals. Over the years several signal processing functions, methodologies and designs have been postulated to address noise and channel equalization echo cancelation. Here, in such a scenario adaptive filters offer potential applications that are bestowed with flexible coefficients to adjust the performance as per the input signal. newlineThe aim of this research is to deal with the problems adjoining signal propagation through digital communication channel and to improve the quality of signal transfer. Initially, ISI being the major issue adjoining the digital data transfer is dealt with the implementation of Cuckoo Search and
