Nano yttria stabilized zirconia coatings on 316l ss by electrophoretic deposition along with chitosan for dental applications

Abstract

Bioceramic coatings on implant materials have been widely used in dental applications because of its chemical stability superior biocompatibility corrosion resistance aesthetic qualities of natural tooth and high mechanical properties In the past decade among the bioinert ceramic alumina has been used widely But due to its low fracture toughness and bending strength zirconia is used as dental implant material instead of alumina Zirconia has a significant interest as bio ceramic implant material owing to its excellent mechanical property thermal stability chemical inertness and biocompatibility Moreover the thermal expansion coefficient of zirconia is close to stainless steel The main disadvantage of zirconia is its poor mechanical properties On the other hand yttria stabilized zirconia YSZpossess high toughness chemical inertness high flexural strength and corrosion resistance with biocompatibility in the oral cavity Bioinert YSZ based dental implants are chemically inert and allow good cell adhesion when compared newline
