Abstract
newlineEnergy sources are divided into two groups namely renewable
newlineenergy and nonrenewable energy sources As the nonrenewable energy
newlinesources in the country are limited there is an urgent need to focus attention on
newlinedevelopment of renewable energy sources The solar energy a prime source
newlineof renewable energy is available in abundant in tropical countries which can
newlinebe utilized efficiently This thesis deals with designing an efficient photovoltaic system
newlineemphasized to track the maximum power point Initially the aspects of
newlineplanning and estimating the performance of a PV installation are considered
newlineA photovoltaic PV array has an optimum operating point known as the
newlinemaximum power point MPP which varies depending on cell temperature
newlineand the solar insolation level To extract maximum power point from a PV
newlinearray mitigating the effects of variation in cell temperature and solar
newlineinsolation level a maximum power point tracking MPPT controller is
newlinedeveloped
