To study the changes in blood flow to testis following Inguinal hernia mesh repair by open and laparoscopic technique

Abstract

Hernia is derived from the Latin word for rupture. A hernia is newlinedefined as an abnormal protrusion of an organ or tissue through a newlinedefect in its surrounding walls. Although a hernia can occur at newlinevarious sites of the body, these defects most commonly involve the newlineabdominal wall, particularly the inguinal region. newlineInguinal hernia repair is one among the most commonly newlineperformed operation in India, owing to a significant lifetime newlineincidence and variety of successful treatment modalities. newlineAdvancements in perioperative anaesthesia and operative newlinetechnique have made this an outpatient ambulatory operation with newlinelow recurrence rates and morbidity. Given this success, quality of newlinelife and speed recovery have become the most important newlineconsiderations in hernia repair. newlineApproximately 75% of abdominal wall hernias occur in the newlinegroin. The lifetime risk of inguinal her nia is 27% in men and 3% in newlinewomen. Of inguinal hernia repairs, 90% are performed in men and newline10% in women. newlineThe incidence of inguinal hernias in males has a bimodal newlinedistribution, with peaks before the first year of age and after age 40. newlineI N T R O D U C T I O N newline2 newlineAbramson et al, demonstrated the age dependence of inguinal newlinehernias in 1978. Those age 25 to 34 years had a lifetime prevalence newlinerate of 15%, whereas those age 75 years and over had a rate of 47%. newlineApproximately 70% of femoral hernia repairs are performed in newlinewomen; however, inguinal hernias are five times more common than newlinefemoral hernias. The most common subtype of groin hernia in men newlineand women is the indirect inguinal hernia. newline
