Electrical energy is an important need in our daily life. This electrical energy is obtained from renewable and non-renewable energy sources. In modern days, renewable energy sources play a vital role in the field of electrical power sector to overcome the problem associated with fossil fuels and conventional energy sources. Solar, wind, biomass, geo thermal and tidal are the different types of renewable energy sources. The major drawback in renewable energy sources is high cost of installation and non-availability in a continuous manner of the various sources available. Solar energy has more advantages than the other renewable energy sources due to its wide availability and sustainability. It is applicable for both grid connected and standalone applications. It has the advantages of Low maintenance cost, safe to operate, high efficiency and pollution free. At the same time, it has the drawbacks of high initial cost, intermittent natured sources, non-availability of continuous power generation and the requirement of energy storage devices. This work describes the series capacitor bidirectional DC-DC converter for solar PV system. The analytical design of the circuit is carried out by using design equations. The simulation analysis of the proposed converter for both forward and reverse mode is carried out in MATLAB SIMULINK software. The voltage gain, efficiency and ripple factor of the converter is compared for both open loop and closed loop simulation analyze. The voltage gain of the converter is increased and the ripple factor of the converter is reduced by high gain bidirectional DC-DC converter circuit. The open loop and the closed loop simulation performance of the converter are further improved by series capacitor BDC for step up mode and step down mode with 18V/80V being carried out by MATLAB software. newline newline newline
