Studies on incidence of common diseases of Race Horses with particular reference to clinico therapeutic aspects of upper respiratory tract infections

Abstract

In order to find out the incidence of common diseases of race horses with particular reference to upper respiratory tract infections, a total of 5521 case records of equine hospitals attached to Bangalore Turf Club (BTC), Bangalore, Hyderabad Race Club (HRC), Hyderabad and Madras Race Club (MRC), Madras for the years 1990 and 1991 were utilized. The overall percent incidence of diseases affecting digestive, respiratory, musculoskeletal, skin, sense organs, nervous, urinary and reproductive systems was 27.69, 19.80, 34.11, 10.20, 7.30, 0.25, 0.36 and 0.36, while the incidence of azoturia, wounds and abscess and other conditions was 1.92, 33.02 and 16.63 respectively. There was a significantly higher incidence of azoturia and diseases of urinary and reproductive systems in females as compared to males. newline
