Leisure time activities among adolescents in relation to their self esteem and personal values

Abstract

The study was conducted on leisure time activities of adolescents in relation to their self-esteem and personal values. Mixed method of research was used. Qualitative data was collected using multistage stratified random sampling from 800 adolescents of 9th and 10th class of randomly selected government and private schools located in rural and urban area of Hoshiarpur district. Data of 28 adolescents was found incomplete thus dropped and a final sample of 772 adolescents was selected. Sample of 8 adolescents was selected for conducting case studies. Quantitative and qualitative data was integrated to discuss the outcomes of the study. Values of mean and median were found quite similar in LTA, SE and PV.Significant difference was found among adolescents of government and private schools, adolescents of rural and urban background of private schools in LTA, SE and PV.No significant difference was found in male and female adolescents of government and private schools from urban background, male and female adolescents of private schools from rural background in LTA, SE and PV.No significant difference was found among government school adolescents in terms of locale on LTA and SE whereas significant difference was found in personal values of these groups.Significant difference was found among rural male and female adolescents of government schools in LTA whereas no significant difference was found among these adolescents in their SE and PV. Data analysis revealed that SE and PV of adolescents of government and private schools contribute significantly towards the prediction of LTA. newline
