Impact of Government Policies on the Healthcare of Tribal Women A Case Study of Jharkhand

Abstract

Background: India is home to over 2,500 ethnic groups, with approximately 80% facing neglect due to administrative hurdles and corruption. Jharkhand, rich in minerals and forest, host 32 tribal communities, but challenges in education and employment hinder women s empowerment. Despite constitutional provisions, tribal women s status remains debated, influenced by cultural, historical, and societal factors. Addressing these challenges requires tailored policies and multifaceted approaches. Method: A multi-stage purposive sampling method was employed, selecting 100 tribal women and 100 agency personnel for interview across four districts in Jharkhand. Structured questionnaire was used for data collection, supplemented by secondary data from official sources. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 25, employing descriptive statistics, percentage analysis and t-tests. Result: Tribal women face various health challenges, with limited access to healthcare facilities due to remote locations and inadequate infrastructure. Despite government initiatives, issues like poverty, illiteracy and limited access to basic amenities persist. Efforts to improve education, healthcare, and economic opportunities have shown promising results, positively impacting tribal women s health and overall well-being. newline
