Abstract
Wind Electric Generators WEG are one of the cheapest machines
newlineto produce electricity if the costs such as environmental pollution cost health
newlinecost fuel cost are considered The three blades along with the hub are known
newlineas an aeroturbine of a WEG The aeroturbine is mounted on a slow speed
newlineshaft A gear box is used in between this slow speed shaft and the generator in
newlinea WEG A 75m long blade of modern 6MW WEG weighs 25 tons It is
newlineobvious that huge weight of these aero turbines will exert more load on the
newlinecomponents of a WEG The tower and foundation of a WEG have to
newlinewithstand the load and vibrations generated during working this make the
newlinedesign of WEG quite robust and increase the cost of wind power Thus the
newlineobjective in blade design is to decrease its weight by using suitable materials
newlinewithout compromising the essential material properties
