dc.description.abstractThe Indian monsoon is one of the most anticipated followed and newlinestudied weather phenomena of the Asian subcontinent It has immense socioeconomic newlineimpact in India and all around South Asia as it has tremendous newlineeffect on agriculture flora and fauna The southwest monsoon SWM not newlineonly feeds and drains large rivers such as the Ganga Brahmaputra peninsular newlinerivers for example the Mahanadi Godavari Krishna and the Cauvery but also newlinethe large eastern rivers in Myanmar for instance the Irrawaddy Salween and newlineSittang These rivers dump large quantities of sediments in to the Bay of newlineBengal BOB Since the Pleistocene period the SWM has varied significantly newlinein its intensity The fluctuations in the magnitude of the monsoon influence newlinethe formation in release of clays and detritus as a product of weathering and newlineerosion of the materials from the bed rock The sediments are transported and newlinedeposited further temporally and spatially by the agents such as water wind newlineice or by gravity These sediments hold the record of the mode of occurrence newlinetectonic settings and the environment under which it has been deposited newlineOcean basins are a major sink for the deposition of sediments newlinewhich bear the signatures and history of deposition and geochemical newlinevariations newline newlineen_US
