dc.description.abstractA Study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Pelvic Floor Exercise and Bladder Training on Urinary Incontinence among female aged more than 60 years of age and residents of old age homes in Kanyakumari. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of urinary incontinence among females aged more than 60 years of age and residents of old age homes. METHOD: Study was conducted using quasi experimental research design. Sample size of the study was 220. MAJOR FINDINGS: Study findings revealed that, prevalence of urinary incontinence among females aged more than 60 years of age in old age homes, 76% (318/417) of them had Urinary incontinence among females more than 60 years of age. With regard to the levels of urinary incontinence, 18.75%, 39.58%, Treatment Outcome: The present study reveals that Pelvic Floor Exercise and Bladder Training is an effective, simple and cost effective non pharmacological measure to reduce the level of Urinary Incontinence. Pelvic Floor Exercise is a mighty warrior that fight against Urinary Incontinence by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. It is also associated with multiple health benefits, which has been effective in prevent ion of pelvic organ prolapse. Bladder Training trained the women to urinate based on the schedule not as they feel. This enhances the bladder capacity and helps them to gain control over their bladder. CONCLUSION: Overall, the findings revealed that, pelvic floor exercise and bladder training is effective in reducing the level of Urinary Incontinence. It improves the wellbeing and quality of life of females. Health care professionals especially nurses play a major role in meeting the health needs of the elderly population. Pelvic floor exercise and bladder training are easily adaptable method to prevent and treat urinary incontinence among females. It can be incorporated as a part of routine care for the elderly population in different settings such as home, hospital by which nurses can be instrumental in improving the quality of life of the elderly females.
