Investigations of antioxidant mixed with natural ester for power transformer applications

Abstract

Mineral oil is a type of petroleum oil. Due to its versatile nature, this mineral oil has many industrial applications. In particular, the mineral oil is used in transformers as liquid dielectrics. Based on many data, only 5% of crude oil remains in the earth. In addition to that, the used mineral oil is not biodegradable so it is widely spilled into the ocean. Due to this, the sea becomes polluted and causes the destruction of marine life. Land-filling makes the soil sterile and incineration pollutes the air. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to find the natural liquid insulators with similar physical, chemical and electrical properties to mineral oil for future transformer operations. In this research, Palm oil, Neem oil, Castor oil, Mahua oil along with the antioxidants namely Rosemary oil and L-Aascorbic acid are used for this investigation. newline
