Magneto Hydrodynamic Analysis of Bearings with Micropolar Fluids

Abstract

This thesis gives out the magneto hydrodynamic analyses of hydrodynamic newlineelliptical bearings with micropolar lubrication. The effects of MHD, surface newlineroughness and porosity are examined theoretically. The linear analysis is used to newlinestudy characteristics of bearings. The effects of micropolar lubricant for various newlineparameters have been compared and presented. A modified Reynolds equation has newlinebeen derived using micropolar fluid theory and the solution of pressure obtained from newlinethis equation has been used to derive load carrying capacity and squeeze film time. newlineThe outcomes of the problems studied in the thesis may be useful in application newlinesituations with a micropolar fluid as working medium. newlineWith the above motivation, the summary of each of the problems examined in the newlinethesis is given below: newlineTheoretical analyses of squeeze film lubrication of micropolar fluid between newlinetwo smooth elliptic plates in the presence of magnetic field are obtained. The newlinemodified Reynolds equation is derived by applying theory of hydromagnetic flow and newlineEringen s microcontinuum theory along with micropolar fluid model. The effects of newlineMHD on film pressure, load carrying capacity and squeezing time of approach have newlinebeen investigated. newline
