Pulsed electric treatment on breast cancer model

Abstract

Worldwide, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women, with millions of new cases each year. Complete cure from this deadly disease remains challenging, as late recurrences and death from the disease are more frequent. Many potential treatments and drugs have found limited success, causing several side effects, increased toxicity affecting healthy cells, and are highly expensive too. This necessitates a better alternative/additional treatment to treat breast cancer which has to be gentle on the body and mainly light on the purse. newlineHigh voltage Engineering has a wide range of applications ranging from food preservation to cancer treatment. Pulsed electric field (PEF) is an emerging bioelectrical application of high voltage Engineering. This work carries out an extensive study in analysing the efficacy of PEF enhanced traditional herbal drugs for effective electrochemotherapy in treating breast cancer. A systematic approach was followed to observe the effect of PEF on breast cancer models by using finite element method and phantom modeling to optimize the electrical parameters for effective treatment. newline
