The Effects of Internship and Self efficacy on Career Intention of Graduating Hospitality Students

Abstract

This study identifies and includes various sub-constructs as suggested by researchers newlineas the gaps in their respective studies. This study includes sub-constructs like working newlineconditions that in turn include working hours, manager s attitude and physical working newlineconditions and remunerations paid to the interns during their internship for the work they newlinedo as training. It also includes personal factors like social persuasion, emotional stability, newlinepersonal performance and vicarious experiences as sub-constructs of self-efficacy. This newlinestudy examines the direct effect of these independent constructs in influencing the career newlineintentions of students pursuing hospitality education in India. It also examines the newlinemediating effects of each sub-construct under self-efficacy on the relationship between newlineeach sub-construct under internship with career intentions. Further, it also studies the newlineeffect of internship on self-efficacy of the students. newlineThe study concludes that self-efficacy does have a positive effect on the career newlineintentions of the students thus convincing them to join the industry after their course newlinehowever, not all sub-constructs show the same result. Emotional stability and emotional newline newline137 newline newlineexperiences are found to be significantly and positively affecting the career intentions of newlinethe students whereas the same is not true for the personal performance and social newlinepersuasion of the students. newline
