Certain investigations on fuzzy based Efficient energy utilization ofWireless sensornetwork

Abstract

Technological advancements in the field of wireless and embeddedtechnologies paved way for the manufacture of small and low cost sensors. These sensor nodes are used to sense, collect and transmit the data either toother nodes of the network or to the sink. Hundreds or thousands of thesenodes collectively form a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which hasemerged to be as one of the important application of ubiquitous computing. These networks have been employed in diverse applications like precisionagriculture, health care monitoring, structural monitoring, militarysurveillance, smart grid and so on. Since sensor nodes are battery operated, this limited energy resource has to be used efficiently. Energy is consumedby the sensor nodes during sensing, processing and communicating. Hencethe prime objective in WSN is to effectively utilize the energy whichenhances the lifetime of the sensor network. To achieve this, one of the majorgoals is to develop energy efficient routing protocols. Among the routingprotocols, hierarchical routing protocolsand#8223; employing the clusteringmechanism proves to be energy efficient. In clustering mechanism, theCluster Head (CH) selection is the major portion to be concentrated on. TheCH collects the data from its members and the aggregated data is transmittedto the base station. The CH that takes up additional responsibilities consumesmore energy and hence has to be selected efficiently. newline
