Abstract
The present research compares traditionally used straight fin cylinder block of 150
newlineCubic Centimetre four-stroke IC engines with the same size wavy cylinder block. For
newlinethis research work, experimentation was carried out at machine lab of Government
newlineEngineering College Bhuj, Kachchh, Gujarat. First of all, the numbers of samples
newlineanalysis of wavy fin were carried out in CFD using CFX 17, for the getting optimized
newlinewavy fin design. The wavy fin cylinder block of optimized design and conventional
newlinestraight fin cylinder block were modelled in solid works and numerical analysis were
newlinecarried out by using ANSYS software for conjugated heat transfer flow for force
newlineconvection between 0 km/hr to 80 km/ph. For experimental investigation and
newlinecomparison the optimized wavy fin design cylinder block of same size and material as
newlineconventional straight fin block was manufactured from LM2 Material by VMC
newlinemachine and all the blocks were experimentally investigated for their heat transfer
newlineperformance in wind tunnel for 0 km/hr to 80 km/hr speed. The results found from the
newlinetesting show improved performance of wavy fin in comparison to the straight fins for
newlinethe same purpose. Also further experimentation was done to check the effect on heat
newlinetransfer coefficient by alternatively using of different fin configuration like supporting
newlineribs, porous ribs, and adding slots on two and four sides of the wavy cylinder block.
newlineThe comparative results indicate the deviation between numerical and experimental
newlinedata and this is due to CFD error and also present research experimental data are
newlinebetter or giving good agreements with past researchers data.
