Abstract
The global prevalence of stroke is rising every year and the majority of
newlinethe survivors are living with residual impairments in terms of independent
newlinemobility and functional ability. The post-stroke impairments lead to progressive
newlinedisability which burdens the family, society as well as the country s economy.
newlineCompared to common impairments, the balance, mobility and gait impairments
newlineare common after stroke and these impairments become a major reason for
newlinefunctional disability after stroke. The main cause for all functional impairment is
newlineinsufficient muscular recruitment in paralyzed muscles. The overall deficit in
newlinemuscle recruitment, motor weakness, sensory-motor deficit, leads to activity
newlinelimitation, balance and mobility impairment in post-stroke population and most
newlinestroke survivors continue to live with residual physical impairments. Post-stroke
newlinesubjects also show poor gait performance with reduced speed and dependence
newlineon mobility which leads to limited community participation.Acupuncture helps hemiplegia cases. The use of acupuncture was to
newlinedredge the channels and collaterals and regulate the energy flow created along
newlinethe pathways that connect the acupuncture points on the body. The pathways
newlinebetween the points are called meridians, which also connect to internal organs
newlinein the body. This study is therefore designed to determine and evaluate the needle
newlineacupuncture to improve motor function and the activities of daily living after
newlinestroke. This investigation is focused on the acupuncture to refine motor skill and
newlinethe ability to do independent work and accomplish in a way that preserves
newlinedignity and motivates the survivor to relearn the basic skills that the stroke might
newlinehave impaired skills like bathing, eating, dressing, walking, etc.as the basis for
newlinethe intervention. In Conclusion, this study reveals that the needle acupuncture is more
newlineeffective in improving limb movement and activities of daily living. Needle
newlinetherapy is effective in reducing muscular tension and improving motor function
newlineof the limbs in hemiplegics
