Academic libraries have been an integral and vital component of the education
newlinesystem, which extends support to education, learning, training and the fulfilment of
newlinethe objectives and missions of the educational institutions they are part of. Being the
newlinerepository of knowledge and gateways to information, higher academic libraries and
newlinelibrarians have to explore innovative ways to fulfil the information needs of users,
newlineespecially in light of the paradigmatic shift in knowledge generation and
newlinemanagement, the constant invention of new web resources and the presence of
newlineinformation search and retrieval tools. The rapid electronic dissemination of
newlineinformation, technological development and generational change force to change the
newlineconcept of 21st century library services. Continuous professional development has
newlinebecome an essential part to cope up with these technological changes. Now the
newlineprofessional development of library professionals depend upon their different
newlinepsychological parameters which we call diferrent personality traits. So, it is
newlinereasonable to study the relationship between the personality trait and professional
newlinedevelopmnet of LIS professionals. The present research work tries to identify the
newlinecompetencies of LIS professionals needed in the technology-driven library
newlineecosystem. From this study we will be able to predict the extent to which LIS
newlineprofessionals are capable of updating themselves to cope up with the continuously
newlinechanging work-environment.
