Abstract
The essence of India is in villages. The rural area not just portrays the culture and tradition of the country but also the poverty and underdevelopment. In India, the condition of the rural people is not so admiring to say the least. The rural population suffers from various problems such as illiteracy, malnutrition, low income, lack of sanitation and health services, lack of awareness about family planning and many more. All the above stated problems directly or indirectly related to income. It is undeniable that increase in income gives rise to the improvement in the quality of life. That is why various development programmes for income and employment generation in rural areas has always been in the focus of the government.
