dc.description.abstractInvestigations on life tables and integrated management of Spodoptera newlinefrugiperda (J.E. Smith) in maize were carried out during 2019 to 2021 under laboratory newlineconditions in the Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture, newlineDharwad and field experiments were conducted at Main Agricultural Research Station, newlineDharwad and on Farmers fields. newlineThe pest passed through five generations each year between June to February newlineunder field conditions. The third generation coinciding with September- October was newlinemost destructive to the crop with overlapping generations. Life tables for S.frugiperda newlinehave been constructed for all generations in which the larval cannibalism and newlineMetarhizium rileyi fungus were found to be the key mortality factors in larval period-2 newline(LP-2) stage. The other parasitoids recorded were Campoletis chlorideae, Exorista newlinexanthaspis and Cotesia ruficrus on larva. newlineMass trapping of fall armyworm moths using sex pheromone traps indicated that newlinethe moth catches started in 39th Meteorological Standard Week and peaked during 43rd newlineMSW. Installation of 10 to 15 traps per acre was found as good as the recommended newlinemanagement package for FAW in maize. Among various intercrop and trap crop newlinetreatments, maize + cowpea + napier grass combination proved to be most effective newlineagainst fall armyworm followed by maize + cowpea with minimum egg load, pest newlineinfestation, larval density, leaf damage and cob damage with higher grain yield. newlineUnder the laboratory conditions, cent per cent larval mortality of FAW was newlineevidenced in chemical treatments like spinetoram 11.7 SC at 0.50 ml/l, newlinechlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC at 0.20 ml/l, emamectin benzoate 5 SG at 0.20 g/l, novaluron 5.25 % + emamectin benzoate 0.9 SC at 0.20 ml/l and spinosad 45 SC at newline0.50 ml/l compared to a maximum of 36.00 per cent in case of biopesticides. newlineApplication of cyantraniliprole 10 OD at 0.30 ml/l and spinetoram 11.7 SC at 0.50 ml/l newlineresulted in cent per cent larval mortality within 3 days of application in maize field.
