Abstract
Need for compressing medical images is to reduce storage space
newlineand transmission time and used bandwidth for voluminous medical images to
newlineenable rapid browsing and retrieval of medical imagery from databases
newlineImage compression techniques give a solution for storing the information in
newlineas little space as possible by minimizing a graphics file in size to an
newlineacceptable level of the quality
newlineImage compression techniques are classified as either lossless
newlinereversible or lossyirreversible compression methods Lossless
newlinecompression schemes are invertible as the reconstructed image after
newlinecompression is numerically identical to the original image Lossy
newlineCompression methods are noninvertible and offer a tradeoff between
newlinecompression speed compressed data size and quality loss
