newlineABSTRACT
newlineThe green synthesis of metal nanoparticle is a booming research area in the current
newlineNano-science and technology. Exploitation of the silver nanoparticles in the field of
newlineNano medicines is increasing owing to its positive effects, such as, antimicrobial,
newlineanticancer and antioxidant activities. Though nanoparticles are synthesized through
newlinephysical and chemical approaches effectively, they are not so eco-friendly. The rationale
newlineof the present study is to develop a fast, more eco-friendly, and green synthesis for silver
newlinenanoparticle and to study its anticancer effect on different cancer cell-lines for the bio-
newlinemedical applications. The objective of the study is to synthesize silver nanoparticles from
newlineleaf extract of Withania somnifera, Aegle marmelos, Taraxacum officinale and to show
newlineits cytotoxic effects on selected human cancer cell-lines. Green synthesis of silver
newlinenanoparticles are characterized by using UV- Vis spectroscopy, Fourier Transform
newlineInfrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy
newlineDispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Synthesized silver nanoparticles were of irregular
newlineshape and the estimated sizes were 18nm, 94nm and 26nm respectively as characterized
newlineusing SEM. Further characterization, which was done using EDX, UV-vis
newlinespectrophotometer and FTIR also confirmed the formation of silver nanoparticles. Silver
newlinenanoparticles synthesized from Withania somnifera, Aegle marmelos and Taraxacum
newlineofficinale by MTT assay at various concentrations showed the cytotoxic activity
newlineeffectively. DNA Fragmentation by TUNEL Assay is performed for the assessment of
newlineapoptosis. Silver nanoparticles which are efficiently synthesized using the leaves of
newlineWithania somnifera, Aegle marmelos, Taraxacum officinale, can be used in the bio-
newlinemedical applications owing to its cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines.
