The electrolytes are vital components of the battery system as they newlinefacilitate the passage of ions from the cathode to the anode and vice versa. newlineEnergy storage systems have utilized electrolytes in a variety of forms, newlineincluding liquid, solid, and polymer (solid or gel type) electrolytes. newlineLiquid electrolytes provide high ionic conductivity (~10-1 newline-10-2 S cm1 newline). However leakage and fire safety concerns are a barrier to the practical newlineuse of this system. On the other hand, solid electrolytes newlinehave limited ionic conductivity, poor interfacial stability, and flexibility. newlineThe development of polymer electrolytes (PE s) in rechargeable batteries newlineand supercapacitors have received considerable interest due to its newlinelightweight, low cost, flexibility, high interfacial contact between the newlineelectrodes, avert electrolyte leakage and offer better mechanical properties. newlineBatteries store energy chemically through redox reactions, and electrolytes newlinehelp carry ions between the anode and cathode during charge and discharge newlinecycles whereas supercapacitors store energy electrostatically through the newlinemovement of charge between electrodes. It also reduces the dendrite newlineformation, and corrosion issues, hence battery life, and increases safety. newlineCurrently, GPE is seen to be attractive in batteries as it improves newlineperformance of batteries and supercapacitors. The energy density of cells newlineis influenced by several factors, including the choice of electrode active newlinematerials and cell design, beyond just the electrolyte properties. newline
