Sustainable energy security for India

Abstract

Energy security, which is often viewed as an and#8215;uninterrupted supply of energy at affordable prices , is increasingly gaining importance in the rapidly changing global scenario. Energy sustainability, with its triple goal of causing minimal environmental impact, ensuring social development and attaining rapid economic growth in an efficient manner, is also demanding attention from policy makers around the world. There is, therefore, a growing need for pursuing Sustainable Energy Security (SES) which is defined as provisioning of uninterrupted energy services (both in the short term and long term) in an affordable, equitable, efficient and environmentally benign manner . This perspective accommodates the supply-side, the demand-side and the three dimensions of sustainable development, viz., social, economic and environmental, in its approach.
