Abstract
The present study entitled Economics and Post-harvest Management of garlic
newlinein Southern Rajasthan was carried out with specific objectives such as the growth rate
newlineof area, production and yield of garlic, cost of cultivation and return, factor share
newlineanalysis, post-harvest management practices, marketing practices and channels
newlineinvolved, producer s share in consumer rupees and price spread in marketing of garlic
newlinein Southern Rajasthan. Both Pratapgarh and Chittorgarh districts were selected
newlinepurposively for the present study on the basis of highest area under garlic cultivation.
newlineArnod and Choti Sadri tehsils from Pratapgarh district and Nimbahera and Begun tehsil
newlinefrom Chittorgarh district were selected for present study. Two village from each tehsils
newlinewere selected randomly. A sample of 160 farmer were selected for this study. The study
newlinewas based on primary and secondary data. The data collected from the growers and
newlinetrader of garlic crop were analyzed using tabular and functional analysis. The results of
newlinethe study revealed that the compound annual growth rate of area, production and yield
newlineof garlic were 5.11 per cent, 7.64 per cent and 2.61 percent, respectively during the
newline2008-09 to 2020-21. On overall basis, total cost of garlic cultivation in Pratapgarh
newlinedistrict was recorded as ` 122094.12 per hectare whereas in Chittorgarh distict, it was
newlineestimated ` 124954.60 per hectare. Among the all cost items, seed shared 53.61 per
newlinecent of total cost in Pratapgarh district and 50.61 per cent of total cost in Chittorgarh
newlinedistrict on overall basis. Irrigation charges obtained second position in Pratapgarh
newlinedistrict (11.87 per cent) and In Chittorgarh district (11.83 per cent). The average net
newlineincome from garlic cultivation was worked out ` 84642.91 per hectare in Pratapgarh
newlinedistrict and ` 100415.11 per hectare in Chittorgarh district. The average return per rupee
newlinewas ` 1.69 in Pratapgarh district while it was ` 1.79 in Chittorgarh district. The highest
