Experimental investigations on methods to reduce nox and smoke emissions from di diesel engine

Abstract

Diesel engines are preferred in the transportation sector due to their newlinehigher efficiency and lower operational cost They are used by millions newlineespecially in developing countries like India Pollutants like Oxides of newlineNitrogen NOx and smoke from diesel engines have long been considered as newlinebarriers to the use of diesel in urban areas Since engine modifications are newlinevery expensive an attempt has to be made to improve the exhaust emission newlinecharacteristics without any engine modifications and much increase in fuel newlineeconomy newlineThe present work was carried out in three phases In the first phase of newlinethe work the dilution effects of carbon dioxide nitrogen and Exhaust Gas newlineRecirculation EGR on NOx emissions were studied The dilution effects of newlinedifferent gases were studied individually by allowing calculated proportions newlineof carbon dioxide nitrogen and exhaust gas separately with intake air newline
