Abstract

In the present study, immigrant experience in the film adaptations of the selected novels of the diaspora will be examined with reference to Meera Syal s Anita and Me, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni s The Mistress of Spices, Jhumpa Lahiri s The Namesake, and Monica Ali s Brick Lane. newlineThe thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter titled Introduction deals with the discussion of the Adaptation theory, the discussion of the term, diaspora, followed by the study of the formation of the Indian and Bangladeshi diaspora, and a detailed study of the socio-cultural background and influences that helped in enhancing the creative talents of the four selected authors, along with a brief summary of their chosen novels. The second, third, fourth and fifth chapters provide the analysis of the four chosen film adaptations in relation to their respective source text. The last chapter makes the comparison among the chosen film adaptations; it includes my findings. newline newline
