Abstract

Infertility starts affecting all the corners of one s life; it has immense effect on the roles and newlinerelationships. Suddenly one is subjected to great amount of anxiety, strain and pressure. A newlinewoman may react differently as many social customs and traditions are related to pregnancy, newlinechildbirth, rearing etc. One is bound to compare two women on issues of the time of marriage, newlinetime gone by after marriage, and successfully being pregnant. These issues may not be important newlineto the ones who have conceived but its heart piercing for the one who can t. newlineTherefore a study was undertaken to explore the experiences of women undergoing treatment for newlineprimary infertility from selected cities of Maharashtra. The objective of the study was to explore newlinethe experience of primary infertile women undergoing the treatment of infertility. newlineMaterial and Method:Qualitative approach was used for the present study with and the research newlinedesign or method of inquiry adopted was hermeneutic phenomenology. Saturation of the data newlinewas achieved with 48 samples in the three cities. Sampling technique used was non probability newlinepurposive sampling technique. The tool consisted of demographic profile and a guiding newlinequestionnaire. The data was collected throughone to one in-depth interview and field notes. newlineTo ensure the trustworthiness of the data credibility, transferability and dependability was done. newlineThe data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics i.e. frequency and percentage for newlinedemographic variables and thematic analysis for determining essential codes, sub-themes and newlinethemes through content analysis was used to analyze the data gathered through interview. newlineResults: A total of 09 themes, 32 sub themes and codes were generated. The themes which newlineemerged from the study were experience as a burden, therapeutic experience, experience of newlinefailure, social experience, experience of disgrace, spiritual experience, experience of optimism newlineand coping experience. newlineIt is seen that all the samples i.e.
