Reducing heating and cooling systems loads in buildings is a cost-effective way to decrease energy consumption in buildings. This reduction can be achieved in many ways including proper insulation of the building envelope. In recent years, considerable attention was given to the use of advanced thermal insulation materials. Over the past few years, insulation companies nationwide have experienced significant growth. This significant growth is expected to continue because of increased cooling demands and pressure from the energy sector and the economy. The Government of India is on a mission to provide power to all by 2019. This means not only it has to increase the generation capacity, but also to reduce the demand of electricity. Any building constructed new or old aims at energy conservation. Cooling accounts for on an average of 60 % of the total load for the commercial and residential sector. Several ways can lead to energy conservation one of the ways is through thermal insulation. Effective insulation can lower energy bills and can reduce energy consumption. To meet the competitiveness of the stringent norms for energy efficiency, it is primarily necessary to reduce heat gain through walls for a tropical climate like India. This can either be done by increasing the thickness of conventional insulation materials or reorienting to advanced insulation materials. The application of nano insulation materials to limit the wall thickness is the ideal characteristic for not only new buildings but for existing building buildings also. The primary goal of this research is to investigate the application of nano materials for energy conservation in buildings and to assess the effectiveness and economic benefits of nano materials under the climatic conditions encountered in Pune. newlineCurrent research can achieve this objective by adopting a two-way research approach that can be developed over two main phases and then combined results of these phases to provide an overall assessment of these materials.
