Nanomaterials has fascinated interest in the field of monitoring of various analyte of biological and environmental relevance by virtue of its extra ordinary mechanical, optical, thermal and electrical properties. Their use is made in possible in many ways by tuning the properties of nanomaterials either by covalent, non-covalent interactions either by formation of nanocomposites. The electrical and electrocatalytic properties of nanomaterials are taken into account and used for modification/fabrication of electrodes for preparation of sensors. The scenario of electrode surface changes on modification because these nanomaterials wire the charge transport at electrode-electrolyte interface by providing large surface area, conductivity and ease of interaction with upcoming entities. High performance electrochemical sensing platforms using numerous fundamentals of electrochemistry is mainly developed by structuring the electrode surface at nanoscale level. The focus of nanomaterials does not limit to signal amplification or electrocatalytic nature but expands the horizon for facile interaction, immobilization and analysis of various chemical and biological functionalities. Owing to the use of nanomaterials for sensor fabrication the possibility of integration with engineering can emerge into a device for online monitoring of analyte of importance. The works in the thesis mainly discusses about the modification of electrodes using nanomaterials and the electrodes are made functional for electrochemical sensing applications under four heads newline
