Abstract

The present study was undertaken to identify the PRSV tolerant papaya plants newlinealong with a better plant yield and fruit quality by evaluating the full sib-mated F6 newline(SBF6) and F7 (SBF7) generation of intergeneric population between Carica papaya newline( CP 50 and Pusa Nanha ) and Vasconcellea cauliflora. The mean performance, newlinevariability, genetic parameters and correleation coefficient were estimated for both the newlinegenerations. newlineAmong the six families of SBF6 generation, superior mean performance for newlinemany of the desirable growth characters of papaya was observed in four families viz., newlineCPV-1-14, CPV-2-15, CPV-2-19 and CPV-3-8 while in SBF7 population, it was newlineobserved in CPV-2-15-7, CPV-2-19-27, CPV-3-8-22 and CPV-3-8-2. The PRSV newlinedisease incidence during fruit harvest stage was low in all the five CPV families of newlineboth SBF6 and SBF7 generations than their parent CP 50 while it was high in PNV newlinefamily of both SBF6 and SBF7 generations than its parent Pusa Nanha . newlineThe variability study resulted low coefficient of variation in all intergeneric newlinefamilies of SBF6 generation for duration to first fruit harvest while in SBF7 generation newlineit was observed in all intergeneric families for duration to first flowering and fruit newlineharvest. Higher coefficient of variation was observed in general in all the six families newlinefor number of leaves, leaf area and petiole length at both flowering and fruiting stages newlineand for number of fruits indicating variable reaction of the genotypes to PRSV. The newlinephenotypic (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was higher in the newlinetraits viz., number of leaves, leaf area and the number of fruits in both SBF6 and SBF7 newlinepopulation. Heritability and genetic advance as per cent of mean (GAM) was higher newlinein number of leaves and number of fruits in both SBF6 and SBF7 population indicating newlinethe possibility of effective selection for these parameters. newline
