Isolation Characterization and pharmacological evaluation of leaves of Bryophillum pinnatum Lam

Abstract

newline Background: Bryophyllum pinnatum is a popular notorious weed used to treat life newlinestyle disorder. Traditinally extracts of leaves are used in the treatment of multiple newlinedisorders. A new steroidal derivative, Stigmast-4, 20 (21), 23-trien-3-one from newlineBryophyllum pinnatum isolated in our lab has been evaluated for anti-inflammatoryanalgesic, anticancer, protection against kindling, antiobesity and antiulcer potential. newlineMany steroids show these activities and in the view of present evidences, here its i newlinedecided to explore this newly isolated molecule and establish mechanism involved newlinebehind it. newline newlineObjectives: Present study designed to explore anti-inflammatory-analgesic, newlineanticancer, kindling, antiobesity and antiulcer potential of newly isolated steroid. newline newlineMaterials and methods: The leaves of Bryophyllum pinnatum Lam. was shade dried newlineand powdered. Along with other four compounds, a new steroidal compound 1 was newlineisolated by column chromatography by using CHCl3/ MeOH gradient system (22:3; newline2.0 L for gradient system). The Compound 1 evaluated for anti-inflammatory newline(carrageenan induced model), analgesic (acetic acid induced model), anticancer (CCl4 newlineinduced model), protection against kindling (pentylenetetrazole induced model), newlineantiobesity (high fed diet model) and antiulcer (pylorus ligation, NSAID and ethanol newlineinduced model) activity on different dose.
