dc.description.abstractThe present research work entitled Development of Topical Dosage Forms Containing Herbal Extracts for Antiarthritic Activity , was summarized and concluded that the present observation is the first experimental data providing the scientific evidence to rationalize and support the traditional use of Cardiospermum halicacabum L. and Delonix elata L. leaves for the treatment of rheumatism and other inflammatory disorders. The present phytochemical studies suggested that, Cardiospermum halicacabum L. and Delonix elata L. leaves (CPCD) have provided the chemical basis for the wide use of these plants as therapeutic agents for treating various ailments. Preliminaryphy to constituent investigation of these plants Cardiospermum halicacabum L. and Delonix elata L. leaves showed the presence of various phytochemical constituents like steroids, flavanoids, glycosides, phenols, carbohydrates, tannins, saponins and fluorescence analysis were done. All the extracts were subjected to thin layer chromatography, HPTLC and their Rf values were determined. The physicochemical characters of anti-rheumatic transdermal pad such as thickness, moisture content and moisture absorption were studied. In vitro diffusion study confirmed that sufficient amount of drug was penetrated from anti-rheumatic transdermal pad formulation. In conclusion, the topical dosage of anti-rheumatic transdermal pad (combined extract of Cardiospermum halicacabum L. and Delonixelata L.) was very easy to apply, simple and convenient when compared to oral dose and other cumbersome invasive techniques like intra articular injection of various anti-arthritic agents. Anti-rheumatic transdermal pad is equally effective as compared to anti-inflammatory agent Diclofenac sodium in suppressing all components of the inflammatory response. The combined extract of Cardiospermum halicacabum L. and Delonix elata L. on the basis of the present study seems to be a promising source of anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic agent as it exhibited its efficacy against all experimental models.
