Abstract
In an era of information overload information literacy and being
newlineinformation literate is important for every individual to become a lifelong
newlinelearner With the development of global information sources it is essential
newlinethat every individual be provided with opportunities to learn not only how to
newlineaccess information sources but also how to evaluate manage and use them
newlineeffectively Information literacy skill is the capacity to seek and evaluate right
newlinesources of information and acquire it We are facing new challenges like
newlineinformation obsolescence information poverty etc to face these challenges
newlinethe Librarians and educationists must think collaboratively to impart
newlineinformation literacy among the students so as to survive in this information
newlineage The teachers should be information literate so that they can implement
newlinethe information literacy programme in their schools But there is a need to
newlineimpart the information literacy skills among the teachers during their pre
newlineservice teacher education Teachers play a key role in providing students with
newlinediverse opportunities to learn how to use information wisely Those preparing
newlineto become primary to higher secondary teachers require a comprehensive
newlineunderstanding of information literacy to guide their own knowledge creation
newlineactivities that will ultimately affect their future students
